Evaluating Sustained Public Interest Via Wikipedia Page Views

I made a tool which identifies streaks of public interest (as expressed by Wikipedia page views) in two public figures, finds overlaps, and turns those overlaps into date-bounded Google / G News searches. I’ve been using it to try to understand the longevity of news events.

Currently Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein have an 11-day streak of peak public attention. It doesn’t seem to be flagging at all.

Colorful graph showing public interest (as expressed by Wikipedia page views) in Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislane Maxwell between 07/07/2025 - 07/17/2025. For each of the days interest is expressed as peak, which means a z-score of 1 as compared to an average of page views over the past year.

Compare the current sustained interest to the initial WH release of Epstein documents in February/ March. Epstein sustained a 12-day streak of public attention but it was only peak for four days and trailed off quickly. Meanwhile, Maxwell’s streak was only six days.

Chart showing public interest streak in Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein between 02/27/2025 - 03/04/2025 . Epstein has a 12-day streak, with peak interest that drops after four days into high and quickly trails off into minimal.

Maxwell's streak is only six days, with four days of peak interest, then finishes off with a medium and a low day.

Public interest, even comparatively, seems incredibly strong right now and considering the lawsuit I can’t imagine it’s going anywhere any time soon.
