No Kings TV

No Kings TV

EDIT: No Kings TV is up at https://searchtweaks.com/nkt/ . I’ve done the initial sweep of the top 20 markets and after finding all the RSS I could I’ve got 73 resources listed. More will be added as I go through the resources listed in US Local News Search, but I need to let my brain unwind a bit.

I’m very interested in the protests which will occur tomorrow, but I’m worried about the disinformation and propaganda which will be flying around. We’re already seeing it and, as I follow the event in the news, I don’t want to make a wrong turn into information war detritus and slop.

So I’m knocking together a web app I’m calling No Kings TV. It aggregates and displays TV news and video RSS feeds by DMA (Designated Market Area, like a metro area.) Pick a DMA from the dropdown menu and you’ll get text news on the left, YouTube videos on the right. Two buttons let you toggle between viewing all news and news related only to the protests.

This is just one of the ways we can create searching and browsing spaces using authoritative information instead of whatever sources a news search engine might have, especially when the engine doesn’t publish a complete list of its sources. Such spaces are more secure against disinformation, information warfare, and other related foolery.

Of course I’ll share it with you! Hope it have it up this afternoon; I’ve got to create a media sources dataset that the program can tap.
